I had this brand new appliance fitted into my new kitchen 11 months ago. Three weeks ago it filled my kitchen with smoke. I phoned Hotpoint's customer service to be told it would out of guarantee as I had bought it in October 2005 but hadn't installed it until December, therefore it was out of guarantee! I therefore agreed to pay £90 for an engineer to call the following Monday who promptly told me that the pump had blown and had caused mass internal damage which meant the whole appliance had to be replaced. He then told me that a "Technical" engineer would call that Thursday. I stayed in all day - he didn't turn up. Customer Services told me that their IT system had somehow postponed my appointment - what a clever system to do that all by itself! They then agreed to bend the process so that I didn't have to wait again for a Technical resource and promised that they would arrange for a replacement machine. That was three weeks ago. I've been told that the appliance is out of stock but that I can have an engineer....... I've been told that someone will call me as soon as it's back in stock..... no one did.... I called them, to be told that "yes, it is in stock, I don't know why you haven't been contacted, but unfortunately we don't now have appointments until a week on Monday, but I'll try to escalate it.... I was promised a call that day to re-arrange.....that was yesterday morning.... nothing. I've phoned so many times that I've lost count. They don't respond to emails either. Infact, they don't give a damn re consumer rights or customer service, so please, learn by my mistake and buy a different appliance by a different make, unless you want a dud machine in your kitchen/utility for three weeks and counting. Personally, I expect more than a white elephant in my kitchen for £500.
