- Pros: a very brief moment of joy before the truth becomes apparent
- Cons: gradually bits stop working until ......nothing
even now i find myself hoping for a miracle, but my fab 28 is no more. it gasped its last on christmas day at just under 2 years old. first it would work 60% of the time but then decided on a complete breakdown. as you can imagine i felt bitter as to its timing and sad our journey is now over and i will have to go back to being an ordinary boring fridge owner. i never told my husband of the variou...

- Pros: classic design looks like no other fridge
- Cons: more expensive than any other fridge!
I'm not sure what the other reviewers actually do to their fridges?! I've had this fridge for over 3 years. It hasn't had any problems at all-the freezer works-the fridge works-no doors have 'fallen off' or 'cracked' the interior fittings of most fridges are of similar quality from what I've seen. This would be a great product, if you used it as a cupboard, and didn't switch it on. Any one of the components made from white plastic, is liable to become brittle, and then break. This includes the door lining, and the fridge lining. The ice-box could probably create a new glacier, if left to its own devices, not sure how it qualifies for grade A energy efficiency. - Cons: only lasts 15 months & customer service appalling
We bought this fridge in November 2005, and 15 months later it broke down (freezer defrosted itself and all food in fridge went off). Smeg offered to pay for parts but not callout charge of £150!! Had it fixed but problem kept recurring and now Smeg have basically washed their hands of it and told me to go to retailer to pursue a refund or replacement! The customer service is absolutely appalling,...

I also bought this fridge, the door shelves sheared off. Two had to be replaced at £22 each. Then the inner freezer compartment door broke off, (the hinges are small and totally inadequate). I've taped the freezer door on permanently now so can't use the freezer part, but at least I don't have to dump the fridge yet. I noticed a smeg on a TV show yesterday and the shelves were missing ...
